Module 5: Use of Has / Have / Had




Has, Have, and Had are forms of the verb “to have”. They are used to show possession, experience, and also as helping verbs in perfect tenses.

1. Use of HAVE & HAS (Present Tense)

Subject Use Example
I / We / You / They HAVE I have a book.
He / She / It / Singular noun HAS She has a pen.
Examples (Affirmative):

2. Use of HAD (Past Tense)

Had is used for all subjects in the past.

Subject Verb Example
All subjects HAD She had a fever yesterday.

3. Has / Have / Had as Helping Verbs

They are also used as helping verbs in perfect tenses.

Tense Helping Verb Example
Present Perfect has / have She has finished her work.
Past Perfect had They had left before I arrived.

4. Common Mistakes

Wrong Correct
He have a car. He has a car.
She has went home. She has gone home.
Did you had money? Did you have money?
