1. What are Parts of Speech?

Parts of Speech are categories of words based on how they are used in a sentence.

In this module, we will learn three important parts of speech used in daily spoken English:

2. Noun

A noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing, or idea.

2.1 Types of Nouns (Basic)

Type Examples
Person Boy, Teacher, Doctor
Place School, Market, India
Thing Book, Pen, Mobile
Animal Dog, Cat, Cow
Spoken Examples:
I have a book.
The teacher is kind.
The dog is friendly.

3. Pronoun

A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun. It helps avoid repetition.

3.1 Common Pronouns

Noun Pronoun
Rahul He
Sita She
Rahul and Sita They
The book It
Spoken Examples:
Rahul is my friend. He is kind.
This is my bag. It is new.
Tip: Pronouns make sentences short and easy.

4. Verb

A verb shows an action or state of being.

4.1 Action Verbs

Verb Example Sentence
Eat I eat food.
Go They go to school.
Play He plays cricket.

4.2 Helping Verbs (Basic)

Spoken Examples:
She is happy.
I am ready.
They are late.

5. Practice Exercises

Identify the noun:
1. The boy is running.
2. I have a pen.
Replace with pronoun:
1. Rahul is my brother. ___ is my brother.
2. The bag is heavy. ___ is heavy.
Underline the verb:
1. She reads a book.
2. They play football.
